Costumier

My degree in fashion gave me a professional, technical background in design, colour, pattern cutting and making. This led me into costume, working in film, TV, theatre and opera, covering all aspects of the job including designing, supervising, assisting, dressing and making.

Creative Sewing Teacher

I studied Fashion Design 20 years ago because I love sewing. This love has never left me. I now work in costume and part of my sewing passion is teaching people of all ages (from 5 years up) how to sew. Classes are tailored to the individual and their particular desires and interests.

So, if its getting your children started with learning how to sew, or if you have a sewing machine in your cupboard that you would like to learn how to use, or you simply want to improve your skills and learn more techniques then get in touch. There are on-going classes running every week.

You can also hire me to run fun creative workshops for your children at birthday parties, weddings, festivals, or any gathering where children need to be entertained. Everybody leaves with their own special creation.

And it’s not just for the kids I also do parties for adults, be it a birthday, hen party, baby shower or even corporate event. All materials, inspiration and fun provided!

  • "I have really enjoyed sewing classes with Kate. She is a fantastic teacher and her easy going nature and encouragement have not only improved my sewing skills, but she has given me the confidence to attempt new projects on my own. I would encourage anyone who has a machine that they don't use or don't know how to use or who just want to learn a new skill, to give her lessons a try."Sharon Willis
  • "You're a very inspiring and patient teacher and I really enjoyed your sewing sessions. Thanks to you I now regard my sewing machine as a relaxing hobby rather than a large ornament!"Catherine Del Piccolo
  • "I don't consider myself to be either an arty or crafty person but Kate's patient, relaxed and professional approach was the perfect introduction that I needed to get to grips with my sewing machine. Metres of bunting and a drawstring bag later (to name but a few projects) and I now have the confidence to tackle basic sewing tasks at home. So thank you Kate, for passing on a valuable skill in such a lovely way."Jayne Bowra
  • "Kate's classes are relaxed, informative and fun. When I started out, I had no experience at all. I learned so much from Kate - she is a great teacher!"Marianne Hogg

A clinical study commissioned by the Home Sewing Association reveals that women who sew – both skilled as well as novice sewers — experience a significant drop in heart rate, blood pressure, and perspiration rate. These are three key factors in the measurement of stress.

So, come and de-stress and create something beautiful in one of our classes.

Please contact me for information on children’s sewing classes, one to one tuition and parties of any description.
