My degree in fashion gave me a professional, technical background in design, colour, pattern cutting and making. This led me into costume, working in film, TV, theatre and opera, covering all aspects of the job including designing, supervising, assisting, dressing and making.

Creative Sewing Teacher

I studied Fashion Design 20 years ago because I love sewing. This love has never left me. I now work in costume and part of my sewing passion is teaching people of all ages (from 5 years up) how to sew. Classes are tailored to the individual and their particular desires and interests.

So, if its getting your children started with learning how to sew, or if you have a sewing machine in your cupboard that you would like to learn how to use, or you simply want to improve your skills and learn more techniques then get in touch. There are on-going classes running every week.

You can also hire me to run fun creative workshops for your children at birthday parties, weddings, festivals, or any gathering where children need to be entertained. Everybody leaves with their own special creation.

And it’s not just for the kids I also do parties for adults, be it a birthday, hen party, baby shower or even corporate event. All materials, inspiration and fun provided!

  • "I have really enjoyed sewing classes with Kate. She is a fantastic teacher and her easy going nature and encouragement have not only improved my sewing skills, but she has given me the confidence to attempt new projects on my own. I would encourage anyone who has a machine that they don't use or don't know how to use or who just want to learn a new skill, to give her lessons a try."Sharon Willis
  • "You're a very inspiring and patient teacher and I really enjoyed your sewing sessions. Thanks to you I now regard my sewing machine as a relaxing hobby rather than a large ornament!"Catherine Del Piccolo
  • "I don't consider myself to be either an arty or crafty person but Kate's patient, relaxed and professional approach was the perfect introduction that I needed to get to grips with my sewing machine. Metres of bunting and a drawstring bag later (to name but a few projects) and I now have the confidence to tackle basic sewing tasks at home. So thank you Kate, for passing on a valuable skill in such a lovely way."Jayne Bowra
  • "Kate's classes are relaxed, informative and fun. When I started out, I had no experience at all. I learned so much from Kate - she is a great teacher!"Marianne Hogg

Sewing Classes

Small friendly classes for all abilities. No prior experience necessary.

Build confidence on your machine by making simple things like bunting and cushion covers. Learn quick tips on mending, altering and customising your clothes. Progressing at your own pace onto more complex and beautiful projects of your choice.

  • Bring your sewing machine and a small sewing kit including scissors, pins, and thread.
  • Bring your own fabric. Class requirements sent out before each class.

If you haven’t used your machine before you would need to do a 1-2-1 with me before.

Childrens beginners class starting soon on Saturday mornings.

A clinical study commissioned by the Home Sewing Association reveals that women who sew – both skilled as well as novice sewers — experience a significant drop in heart rate, blood pressure, and perspiration rate. These are three key factors in the measurement of stress.

So, come and de-stress and create something beautiful in one of our classes.

Please contact me for information on group classes, one to one tuition, children’s sewing classes, and parties of any description.

  • "Can't believe how my sewing confidence has gone from zero to hero in such a short time – thank you!!!

Community Artist

It has become a passion of mine to teach people of all ages how to sew. I have designed and facilitated many projects in schools, at festivals, community fairs and youth groups. The main focus of my projects is rooted in my passion for sewing and I have also had great success in teaching and producing community art projects through a wide variety of other media.

  • "This project is great for binging the communities together while getting important issues across."Clapham Park community project.
  • "Kate has wonderful ideas that appeal to children. She provides interesting materials – many of them recycled – for the children to work with and the children have freedom to develop their own creativity under her guidance."Anthea Dalton, Head Teacher Glenbrook Primary School, Brixton
  • "The children really enjoyed it and were very proud of their finished product."The Orchard School, Streatham
